The Hotel Lobby AI trend, explained
Where the Hotel Lobby AI videos come from: the 2022 Quavo and Takeoff performance on A COLORS SHOW, how the AI versions spread, why some fans object, and how to make your own without the original footage.
Last updated:
The Hotel Lobby AI trend has nothing to do with hotels. It is named after a song, and the videos copy the look of one performance of it: two people side by side in front of a bright orange backdrop, sharing a microphone that hangs between them.
The original: Quavo and Takeoff on A COLORS SHOW
"Hotel Lobby" is a song by Quavo and Takeoff, two members of Migos who recorded together as Unc & Phew. It was released on May 20, 2022 and later appeared on their album Only Built for Infinity Links.
In 2022 the duo performed it on A COLORS SHOW; Revolt notes the performance was released for Black Music Month. Complex describes the two trading verses against the show's bright orange backdrop while sharing one microphone, and Revolt describes the microphone hanging above them. That set-up is what the trend copies.
How the AI versions spread
According to Revolt, the trend started with a version showing two cats, which was widely reposted on X, and then spread to TikTok and Instagram. Complex reports that it took off in early September 2026 and spread on TikTok through the month.
Most of these clips are face swaps of the original video: Complex describes tools that map two uploaded images onto the 2022 performance, keeping the rappers' movements, lip-sync and the original audio. Pairs reported in the coverage include celebrities, film and TV characters, footballers and pets.
How Quavo responded
Complex reports that on September 23, 2026 Quavo reposted the original, unaltered performance on his own accounts. On October 1, Revolt reports, Victoria Monét posted her own recreation with Quavo, captioned as made without AI.
Why some people object
Takeoff died in November 2022. Complex describes fans who object to using his likeness in AI remakes after his death, and wider concerns about consent and about using people's faces, voices and copyrighted work without permission.
Making your own version without the original footage
You do not need the original video, or anyone else's face, to make a clip in this style. This site generates a new video from two photos you upload: two people side by side in front of an orange backdrop, with a microphone hanging between them.
- Use photos of yourself and of someone who agreed to it — a friend, a partner, a parent.
- Nothing from the 2022 performance is used: not its footage, not the artists' likeness, and not the original song. Any sound in a video is generated by the AI model.
- When you post it, say that it is AI-generated.
What this site is not
- It is not a face-swap tool and does not put anyone into the original performance.
- It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Migos, Quavo, Takeoff's estate, COLORS, their labels, or any AI product named in coverage of the trend.
